Sindhu was born in July 1995 in a Telugu Jat family. Her parents P. V. Ramana and P. Vijaya both are volleyball players. Since from childhood she joined badminton at Indian Railway Institute of Signal Engineering and Telecommunications in Secunderabad.
Pullela Gopichand is the mentor and coach of Sindhu. She is the first Indian women to win a medal at World Championship Badminton in 2013. She also awarded with Padma Shri award by Government of India in 2015.
She has won many titles in International circuit for past few years. Won bronze medal in World Championships in 2013 and 2014. In 2012 Commonwealth Games, Sindhu has secured bronze medal at the age of 19.
The dream of 21 year old Telugu girl has came true in Rio Olympics 2016, She qualified for the finals of Olympics badminton 2016. She set a new record for an Indian women to win a gold medal in Olympic games History.
